Although the CAAP has not yet made an official statement regarding the problem with the software of the air traffic management center.
The Manila international airport authority MIAA has given an update regarding the affected flights from domestic and international flights.
In MIAA’s initial report, 14 international flight departures were affected, 7 in terminal 3 while 7 were also affected in terminal 1.
Four of the arrivals were affected, one at NAIA terminal 1 while three at terminal 3.
In addition, it also reached 24 domestic flights from NAIA terminals 2,3 and 4.
Five domestic arrivals at NAIA terminal 2 are also affected.
Base initial information from CAAP is back to normal and the problematic software of CAAP’s air traffic management center has been fixed.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) disclosed on Monday, May 20, 2024, that its Air Traffic Management Center encountered technical problems of the Air Traffic Management Center with its software at around 11:27 a.m.
To ensure the safety of the flying public, CAAP decided to be conservative and controlled flight operations by providing longer separation between departing flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA)(
Traffic coming in and out of Manila was affected as an air traffic management contingency procedure was put in place to ensure the safety of passengers.
Only departing flights experienced delays with the longer intervals. At NAIA Terminal 1, flights of Eva Air, Korean Air, and Asiana were delayed for almost two hours.
As of posting, MIAA is still collecting all the relevant data on aircraft delay due to this technical problem.
